Having graduated from the Yoga Psychology Institute in 2025 as a Mental Health Aware Yoga Teacher, Sharron is passionate about helping people overcome and/or navigate the debilitating problems associated with mental health.
With its emphasis on breathing practices and meditation — both of which help calm and centre the mind — it’s hardly surprising that yoga also brings mental health benefits, such as reduced anxiety and depression. The Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2018 released figures that showed anxiety and stress-related disorders were experienced by 20.1% of the Australian population or 4.8 million people and that one in four experienced an anxiety and/or affective disorder in the past 12 months, equating to 3.2 million people.
Many people are turning to yoga to quieten the mind and ease into relaxation to enable them to think clearly and sleep, two major hurdles of the stress cycle.
Research has shown that yoga can be helpful in improving mental health in clinical populations, particularly as an adjunct to treatment. Sharron offers mindful movement, relaxation and breathing practices that support students to move and be present in their bodies and to connect with others. She offers an environment that is safe and supportive for all students, including those experiencing mental health challenges.
